Noise Portals
What do the Baltic Sea ports of Klaipėda and Kotka in Finland have in common? Both cities are marked by different losses and different urban rhythms. Noise Portals (Triukšmo vartai), an international contemporary art exhibition curated by Justė Kostikovaitė, explores how the sounds of the port and heavy industry can become more than noise. They can become a shared rhythm that brings communities together and helps them cope with loss. Alongside the lost landscapes of the Kotka islands, the exhibition revisits Klaipėda's former avant-garde culture and rave scene, and the role of the city's soundscape in imagining its future.
The key visual became Brigita Kasperaitė's omg! Oh my Goddess! (2026), a 3D-printed figure based on a Neolithic goddess, an ancient symbol of birth, death and renewal. Rendered in chrome, she feels industrial yet luminous, echoing the exhibition's themes of loss and new beginnings in port cities. Dreamy, script-like typography adds a sense of nostalgia, recalling the city's past and its rave nights. The identity was applied across posters, an outdoor banner, social media, the exhibition's main text wall, artist names and captions.
